. for the second time in as many weeks the nfl is mourning the loss of one of its players. the dallas cow likewise josh brent will in court this morning. we're hearing from brent for the first time this morning. abc's clayton sandell has the story. >> reporter: police say that josh brent was speeding down this road when his mercedes crashed, flipped and caught fire. in the passenger seat, his teammate, jeff brown. brent was given and failed field sobriety tests. brown was rushed to a hospital where he died. >> once the officers learned that brown had passed away then mr. price-brent was under arrest for intoxication manslaughter. >> on behalf of josh, a tremendous loss to him. >> reporter: it's not the first time that brent has been charged with drinking and driving. he was arrested in college and sentenced to 60 days behind bars. from his jail cell overnight he released a statement. it's been a tragic week for the nfl. last saturday, kansas city chiefs jovan belcher murdered his girlfriend and then killed himself just hours earlier, police talked to belcher found passed out in his car. >> how are

, as the nation mourns with connecticut, it stands, too, with surviving schools and the people who fill them with hope. >> and we now are beginning our conversation what about to say to our kids across the country about what happened in newtown, connecticut. joining us to talk about how teachers and parents wican held their children feel saver, jeffrey, and willow bay. i would like to start with you, jeffrey, thaend have willand th weigh in. it varies on the age of the child. for children 7 and under, we shouldn't be bringing this up? >> our young people are not consuming huge amounts of tv and radio that young age. we need to make sure their world gets righted, their routines get re-established. mostly take the temperature of young kids, see if you see science of sadness or anxiety. you could ask kids, anyone concerned need to talk about. i would not try to get very young kids to consume the story. >> if they don't ask, don't bring it up? >> let them continue in the world that 5 and 6-year-olds need to live in where they're safe under the caring watchful eye of adults. that does not assume

. >> reporter: it is a difficult situation for everyone here. and we know that the mourning and the funerals continue this week. one of the many reasons why sandy hook students will not be returning to school until after the holidays. in fact, the school superintendent just told me they are planning on january 2nd. that said, newtown public schools are in full swing today. we've seen dozens of school buses driving through town. but those schools are certainly still facing many challenges bringing their students back into the classroom. this morning, parents of sandy hook elementary students say their children will return to school some time in january. relocating to this empty middle school about seven miles away, with a newly-installed security system. on tuesday, tractor-trailers brought desks and supplies. school officials going through great lengths to re-create their former classrooms. right down to the very last crayon. that precision, designed to help comfort sandy hook students, like 9-year-old david uhl. >> i am just having a hard time going through all this. >> reporter: more of ne
